White House Staff Failing to Pay Taxes
Remember when Joe Biden said it was patriotic to pay higher taxes?
Some White House staff didn’t get the message. According to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), they’re not paying their fair share… or even paying at all.
Maybe that’s why they are called “exempt” employees.
The Washington Post reported that forty-one employees of the Executive Office of the President owe $831,000 in 2009 back taxes — an average of $20,268 per person.
This news is very confusing considering that USA Today recently reported that federal employees are paid an average of 20% more than their private-sector counterparts. Given their higher pay and more generous benefits, shouldn’t they have more money to pay taxes with?
The Post article did not provide names, citing privacy concerns. Therefore, we don’t know if any high-ranking officials are among the debtors.
Have you been a bad boy again, Tim Geithner?
An interactive table lists the numbers of federal employees and their tax debts by department.
It is interesting reading… and quite disappointing as well.
